Every great day starts in your bedroom. A great bedroom is set up to give you the right mix of comfort, privacy and exclusivity to ensure you get up refreshed and ready for the day.
Setting up your dream bedroom or even guest bedroom? Here are nine must haves you must consider before setting up:
- Bed frame and mattress
The most important component of your bedroom has to be your bed. Aside from the comfort and style it gives to the room, your bed frame can help you create a lot of useful storage space underneath. Your choice of bed size- single, twin, king or queen must be based on the size of your bedroom.
Another critical piece of your bedroom is your mattress. A mattress must be viewed as an investment and should be evaluated based on it’s support and the material it’s made of.
Your wardrobe is the second most important furniture decision you must make for your bedroom. Aside from being a store for your clothes, it serves as a wonderful “clutter-eliminator” for your room. Choose from a wider or narrower style of wardrobe based on the space you have in your bedroom.
- Bedside tables
Bedside tables or night stands serve as important practical items of furniture you must have in your bedroom. They are useful to place a lamp on, store medicines and lay your book down on. To maintain balance, it’s ideal that you have a bedside table on either side of the bed, unless you opt for a single bed.
- Shelf space
Shelves are important storage spaces for pillows, bedding, towels and linen items and are practical additions to your bedroom. Wall-mounted shelves can also be considered to display books and other curios in your room.
- Bedside lamps
Bedside lamps can add some nice warm light and a lot of character to your bedroom. They are especially useful when you are looking for something in the middle of the night, and do not want to switch on the glaring ceiling lights.
A chair (or chairs) is a great furniture item to include in your bedroom if you like to get some work done from the comfort of your room. A bed is not the best space to be productive, studies have shown.
- Dressing table
A dressing table is a nice vanity furniture item to add to every bedroom. It often comes with a mirror and drawers and enables you to store grooming and personal care items easily. Also, there is almost always room below the dressing table for a neat stool.
Indoor plants are much more than just beautifiers for your bedroom. Aside from the valuable oxygen they give out, indoor plants can enhance your mood, boost your creativity and bring down your stress. A stylish planter also gives your room a classy look.
- Some nice wall art
Before you can declare your bedroom furnishing complete, the bare walls must be given some life with some well-chosen wall art. Before choosing wall art for your room, do consider what the right size of artwork would be and also see that it’s style and color blends well with the other elements in your bedroom.
Setting up your bedroom can be great fun and will reveal a lot about your personality to yourself. It’s advisable to take your time over it and not cut any corners. In the long term your bedroom will prove to be one of your most important investments.
