2022 is a bit easier than 2021, but we still had to spend a lot of time at home. Being home and having more free time to experiment inspired many eclectic and creative makeup trends.

On the other hand, wearing masks covers most of our faces. That created a different direction, a rise in popularity of no-makeup makeup looks.

Whether you want to go all out with your makeup, or prefer something simple, we’re sure you’ll find something for yourself in the latest 2022 makeup trends.

Natural Coverage

One of the main things that changed in 2022 is the foundation trend. People began to care about their skin and talk about the topic more. As a result, our skin got healthier and that allowed us to ditch heavy coverage and contours. Even if your skin isn’t flawless, you’re still more than welcome to rock the light foundation trend. 2022 was all about acceptance, too.

There are many ways to achieve a natural base. Try to use a demi-matte foundation. It gives your skin a beautiful texture while still keeping the oil-controlling benefit of matte coverage. This combination gives you a natural, skin-like finish.

Bright Colors

Neutral shades will always stay in trend for work and everyday makeup. However, we’re seeing more and more influencers using colorful pigments.

You don’t have to go all out every day, but creating a fun purple lip or neon blue eyeliner look will give you a moment of playful fun. Combine it with glitter and shine – another two 2022 trends – and you’ll definitely feel better, even if you’re wearing it at home.

Retro Looks

Like fashion, makeup also often takes inspiration from vintage looks. Currently, we’re not looking too far back – most trends are inspired by the 90s and early 2000s. From voluminous mascara, natural brows, and nude lips, to baby blue eyeshadows, matte finishes, and the classic cat-eye. There are tons of ways you can get inspired from movies and photos created in these decades.

Creative Eye Makeup

Instagram makeup stars are making full-on masterpieces on their eyes. You can do it too without being a professional makeup artist. Think about it this way – use your eye makeup to express how you feel. One day you might want to draw interesting graphic lines with blue eyeliner, and other days you can create an eye-catching multicolor look. Combine it with a purple or green mascara, and you’ll definitely attract more than a few looks.

Orange and Peach Lips

Warm orange and soft peachy lips were a huge trend throughout the year. Burgundy is expected to become more popular as we go in the colder months, but it’s not just the color you can play with. There are two main paths when it comes to lip makeup in 2022. The first is a full, plump lip with gloss. The second is an Asian-inspired stained look, with more pigment in the center of the lip, which gradually disappears towards the edges.

Feathery brows

Brow trends constantly change, but 2022 has shown we liked the direction we started following in 2020-21. We got back to more natural looks – and we’re here to stay.

Also inspired by vintage beauties, light, feathery brows are the most popular look this year. Try filling your brows by making upward strokes with a pencil, or use a gel to shape them. Finally, you could try the lamination trend, which will make them look fuller and bushy like we’re often seeing on models in fashion shows.

Even if you don’t like any of the 2022 trends – there’s one main takeaway you can use. 2021 was all about fun, creativity, and individuality. Explore where you can take your makeup. Play with different colors and ideas, and who knows, maybe one of them will be on our list for 2023.
